Amino acid (ah-ME-no)
The quality of protein is related to its amino acid content. The individual amino acids are released from food during digestion. Peptides are made from amino acids. Some amino acids are essential for life and many are now considered to be conditionally essential. Although more than 100 amino acids are found in nature, only 22 occur in animals.
Vitamin C and the B-vitamins (especially B-6) should be taken with amino acids. There are four transport systems that carry amino acids across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). If you are going to take more than one amino acid on an empty stomach, do not take the ones that share a common transport system -- they will compete with each other. The four major transport systems are as follows:

Large Neutral Transport System:
Histidine
Isoleucine
Leucine
Methionine
Phenylalanine
Threonine
Tryptophan
Tyrosine
Valine
Small Neutral Transport System:
Asparagine
Glutamine
Proline
Serine
Basic Transport System:
Arginine
Lysine
Ornithine
Acidic Transport System:
Aspartic acid
Glutamic acid
