Chemical sympathectomy

SYN: Chemical denervation
This procedure allows precise dose-response studies that explore
the mechanisms of thermogenesis. Rats are injected with
50 mg/kg (body weight) of 6-OHDA in the morning and evening.
6-OHDA depletes noradrenaline (NA) stores in the sympathetic
nerves. The rats are killed by decapitation 15 hours after the last injection and the
NA-depleted IBAT (interscapular
brown adipose tissue) is quickly dissected.
Choline (KOH-leen)
One of the B vitamins. In lecithin it is found as
phosphatidylcholine. Choline is essential for synaptic
transmission.

Refers to the parasympathetic nervous system (PSN) that uses acetylcholine as a
