Exercise-induced thermogenesis (THER-moe-JEN-e-sis)
Exercise causes the adrenal gland
to secrete adrenaline and the sympathetic nervous system
releases (SNS) noradrenaline (NA).
Increased levels of these catecholamines causes lipolysis and thermogenesis.
Obese people do not release as much of these catecholamines in response to exercise as
people who are naturally lean. Thus, obese people do not break-down and burn fat properly
when they exercise. This is why fat people can walk to China and back on a treadmill and
still be fat.
