An estrogen that is found in mammals.
Estradiol is the most potent estrogen; it is formed in the ovary and, to some extent, the testes. Estradiol is converted in the liver to estrone
by 17 beta-hydroxysteroid
dehydrogenase. It is found in large quantities in pregnant women. Estradiol from the
urine of mares and stallions is used to make medical products.
Estriol (ES-tree-ol)
A metabolite of estrone and estradiol. Estriol is converted
to estriol 3-sulfate-16-glucuronide, which is excreted by the kidney.

Estrone (ES-trone)
TRADE NAME: Theelin.
An estrogenic hormone that is less active
than estradiol. It is found in the urine of pregnant women
and mares. Androstenedione is converted into estrone by aromatase.
