Set Point
A theory that ones body weight is determined by genetic and
biochemical factors. This body weight (set point) is aggressively defended -- whether one
is trying to lose weight or gain weight. For example, when your weight goes below your set
point, fat burning is reduced and your appetite is increased. Thus, in order to lose
weight permanently, one must lower the set point (change the genetic/biochemical factors).
