Taurine (TAW-reen)
An amino acid that is formed from
cysteine. Taurine stabilizes the level of potassium in the
cells of the heart. This helps prevent electrical instability and arrhythmias. Taurine also modulates the activity of cAMP and is extremely helpful in cases of congestive heart failure.
In this case, "extremely helpful" means it can save your life. Taurine causes
the release of stomach acid and should not be taken at the same time as aspirin.
