TRH
Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (thigh-roe-TROW-pin)
A hormone secreted by the hypothalamus
that goes to the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland
via the portal venous pathway. TRH stimulates the pituitary to release thyroid-stimulating
hormone (TSH) into the bloodstream. TSH stimulates the release of
thyroid hormones.
Triglyceride (try-GLIS-er-eyed)
SYN: Triacylglycerol
A combination of glycerol and three
fatty acids (i.e., body fat).
Triiodothyronine
(TRY-eye-OH-doe-THIGH-roe-neen)
SYN: T3
T3 is the active form of thyroid hormone. T3 is created from T4. This conversion creates reverse T3.

Tryptophan (TRIP-toe-fan)
An essential amino acid that is
converted into serotonin and niacin.
It is useful in the treatment of obesity, insomnia, and depression. Tryptophan is
converted into 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which is converted
into serotonin (5-HT).
