17 beta-hydroxysteroid
dehydrogenase
An enzyme that converts estradiol into estrone in the
liver.
17-ketoreductase
An enzyme that converts androstenedione into testosterone.
It also converts DHEA into androstenediol.
17-ketoreductase is also responsible for the conversion of estrone
into estradiol (and vice versa).
17-KS
17-Ketosteroids (KEY-toe-STEER-oydz)
Neutral steroids that have a ketone group in carbon position 17
(C-17). They are produced by the adrenal cortex and gonads. Androsterone, corticosterone, and compound E are 17-KS.
