8-phenyltheophylline (FEN-ill-thee-AHF-i-leen)
8-PT is a specific adenosine receptor antagonist that was
used to determine whether phosphodiesterase (PDE) or adenosine
was the primary inhibitor of thermogenesis. Also used
in these studies was 3-propylxanthine (3-PX) which is a
phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor with low potency as an adenosine antagonist.
