December 23, 2000: I'm currently working on a companion post for my recent post on green tea and thermogenesis. The companion post will compare the best green tea products for specific purposes: stimulating thermogenesis, lowering your blood pressure, and preventing disease.

Below you will find links to select news articles. Since most mainstream news is BS, I decided NOT to run the standard news feeds that you see on all the other sites. Instead, I will feature hand-picked news and articles. Hopefully this will prove to be a unique and time-saving resource. Let me know what you think. This site has benefited greatly from readers who have been kind enough to take the time to e-mail their comments and suggestions. Thanks to one and all and have a rockin' Christmas.

Concerns over PPA (phenylpropanolamine) are not relevant to ephedra. As usual, you get the straight facts from the Ephedra Education Council, not the mainstream media. Is it not curious that the FDA put the hammer down on PPA? All they have is questionable evidence of a rare problem. If they just happened to wake up one day feeling like going after an OTC drug, why not acetaminophen or aspirin? Just look at the numbers and you will see that this is political. The PPA thing is just another guilt-by-association attack on ephedrine. Think about it: even though it is scientifically meaningless, have you noticed how often FDA minions tell the press that ephedrine is a "chemical cousin" to amphetamine and meth? Well, you might as well enjoy the cigar -- the "family" has grown. They are softening up the public with guilt by association propaganda in order to reduce the backlash when they eliminate ephedrine to ensure mega-profits for the upcoming beta-3 prescription thermogenic drugs.

It should come as no surprise that a new study found that Meridia dramatically increased the chances of MAINTAINING weight loss -- scientists have known for a long time that, just like people with high blood pressure or other chronic diseases, obese people need to take medication for the rest of their lives. Almost ALL obesity drugs have thermogenic properties, and they lower your set point by correcting biochemical imbalances. It's hilarious to watch the press treat this like it is something new and unique to Meridia with statements like "a long-term weight-maintenance pill could be at hand." This "news" is ancient. To learn more read my post, Meridia: another Trojan Horse.

Free-Market.net has an excellent article, Global Warming: Heated Debate, about a recent international gathering on global warming that collapsed into chaos.   Here is a quote: "Note to world bureaucrats: If you want northern Europeans to oppose things that might warm the planet, don't schedule meetings for late November." weight loss, health research, thermogenic, fat burners

Scientists have found that many obese people have a genetic defect that causes increased insulin production. This plays an important role in the development of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Some day it won't be politically incorrect to say that maybe it's not the Twinkies.

It looks like we will finally be able to know what we are eating. The US has new organic standards and foods labeled "organic" cannot be bioengineered, irradiated, or full of antibiotics. Foods will be labeled "100 percent organic," "organic" or "made with organic ingredients," depending on ingredients. Here is a link to the full story.
