News, Rants & Site InfoNote: Click here to go to the most recent home page update. However, if a search engine brought you to this page, you will most likely find what you are looking for on this page. Oct 2, 2001: We are happy to announce that Bodybuilding.com has joined the Supplement Price Comparison. Their prices and product selection are amazing, so check for new low prices on your favorite supplements. In addition, we have added two new categories to the Best Price Competition: CLA and Thyroid Booster supplements. They are listed in the drop down menu labeled "Supplements: Price Competition." Sept 12, 2001: I finally finished my "Chitosan Versus Xenical" post. I never expected it to take so long, but I'm committed to putting out quality information instead of cranking out noise on a schedule. This is why I encourage everyone to join my update list. I just let you know when there's been a significant update to the site. Period! One way or another, many people have a strong opinion about chitosan, but this post is
going to lay a lot of new information on you and get you thinking. I tracked down medical
articles, patents (did you know Roche pharmaceuticals has a patent on chitosan?), and I
even did some personal experimentation -- essentially a human version of the Kanauchi et
al. Sprague-Dawley rat study. Hey, the envelope was begging to be pushed, so.... Texas is now requiring ephedrine labels contain FDA Medwatch phone number. On the surface this may seem reasonable, but this post will give you the inside scoop on the dirty politics behind MedWatch and how this all relates to the upcoming prescription obesity drugs and the beta-3 scandal. As if that's not bad enough, the FDA is also pretending to protect us from "dangerous" offshore drugs (click to read William Faloons article, "Are Offshore Drugs Dangerous?"). Thanks to the FDA's "protection," it is open season on sick and elderly Americans that are being price gouged by the pharmaceutical companies. And what a coincidence: the FDA just happens to enjoy revolving door employment with the pharmaceutical companies! Third party testing has discredited the unsubstantiated claim of colchicine in ginkgo supplements. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There's big money behind the flood of stories about supplements being unsafe and unregulated and not containing what they're supposed to. Consumer Lab has received tons of media coverage of their negative statements about quality control in the supplement industry. And what a coincidence: Consumer Lab was started by two *former* FDA guys! The FDA wants to expand its power to require pre-market approval of supplements. And another coincidence: only the big pharmaceutical companies would be able to afford to get drug-like regulatory "approval" to sell supplements. In addition, only the biggest selling supplements would be worth the investment of time and money involved in getting regulatory approval. So a lot of supplements would disappear from the market. But the drug companies would make windfall profits by price gouging us on the ones that survive the takeover. For example, in countries where this has already happened, consumers pay up to 18 TIMES more for their supplements than Americans. I want to thank everyone who has sent in suggestions and alerted us to bargains for the Supplement Price Comparison. We are working as fast as possible to expand it, but it is a LOT of work. Unlike the big corporate sites, we don't have an army of wage slaves, so a project of this size takes time. On the other hand, being small and independent allows me to speak the truth without politically correct "editing." It also lets me publish quality information "when it's done" instead of "when it's due." I think it's a good trade-off -- there's too much corporate noise on the internet already. Thanks for supporting this site through the Supplement Price Comparison.
