Jan 28, 2002: I had just about finished the update on my chitosan experiment when Health Canada banned thermogenic supplements. So decided to put the chitosan update on the back burner and start working on a response to this latest regulatory assault on obese people. While this may not be a timely response, it is by far the most thorough response that I have seen.

Health Canada's so-called "voluntary recall" is mirrored after the FDA's original "Proposed Rules." So I thought it appropriate to examine the scientific evidence behind these regulatory actions. Did you ever wonder what the anti-ephedrine medical references actually say? Well, now you can read them and make up your own mind.

The mainstream media's coverage of thermogenic supplements has been horribly biased. So we are going to contact reporters and try to get the truth into the popular press. If a reporter is willing to do an objective article, I will provide technical assistance and Selma's Document Retrieval Service will provide FREE medical articles!!

The anti-ephedrine camp is killing us with dishonest propaganda and somehow we have to get the truth out.

You might notice that I have put a lot of work into improving the look and readability of my posts with cascading style sheets. Most people have Georgia and Arial fonts, but if you don't, you can download them here. I've done a respectable amount of compatibility testing, but if you have a problem, please let me know.

Nov 16, 2001: We have added MultiVitamins to the Best Price Competition. This one looks a lot different than the other Price Comparison categories because I generated the tables from a monster database that we created. This is really cool: there are links to the manufacturers home page and links to merchant specials and coupons and shipping information. I also calculate the cost per daily dose on this huge selection of multivitamins. I'm really happy with the way this turned out. Let me know what you think.

I'm still experimenting with the chitosan/vitamin C combination and it is going quite well. I'm going to do an update post on this when I get the results of my blood tests. With all the chitosan I've been taking, the test results should look pretty good.smiley.gif (125 bytes)

Here's a site to bookmark: The Free Medical Journals Site has a list medical journals that offer free full text medical articles online. In fact, a growing number of scientists are trying to get publishers to offer free access to the full text of scientific journals (6 months after publication) via an online public library. This IS supposed to be the information age, and publishers can make money without permanently impeding the dissemination of scientific knowledge and progress. After all, much of this research is conducted at public expense -- so lets tell the dinosaurs that it's time to join the information age and do the right thing. I urge everyone to sign this open letter at the Public Library of Science.
