News, Rants & Site Info

Mar 08, 2004: Get Sci Fit EPHEDRA products on a Buy one, get one FREE sale! They won't last long. I've already contacted the people on my update list. Sci Fit has Hydroxycut clones and Xenadrine clones and more! Lots of new stuff. See the Ephedra/Ephedrine Price Comparison page for all the details.

Mar 02, 2004: We have added brand listings to the vitamin price comparison. Although the categories are better for comparing similar products, the brand listings eliminate the guesswork of figuring out what category a particular product is listed under. Some of the bodybuilding products are particularly hard to categorize.

Of course, with the ephedra ban, I will be writing about the alternatives. Judging from my emails, I need to start a "Current Recommendations" page for the different supplements. I've heard people say that the ephedra ban is no big deal because you can still buy mini thins (ephedrine hcl), but frankly I doubt it will stay on the market much longer. As I wrote in the beta-3 scandal, cheap OTC thermogenics will be removed or moved to prescription-only status (see 1, 2, 3) to ensure windfall profits for the upcoming prescription beta-3 thermogenic drugs. Good luck finding a doctor willing to prescribe the 'dangerous' reclassified ephedrine -- especially for an unapproved use like weight loss.

In addition, the drug warriors want to get rid of ephedrine hcl and pseudoephedrine cold medicines because they can be used to make methamphetamine. If you are going to try to stock up, do not go into a store and buy more than one package of ephedrine at a time. Do not bring a bunch of friends with you thinking they can each buy one box. If you try this, they will get your license plate and report you as a possible meth dealer. It is hard to believe that people actually go along with this police state stuff, but they do. Unfortunately, the spirit of Nazi Germany is alive and well. As a Wal-Mart co-manager bragged to the press: "Our associates are willing to do anything to help police and the community."

Apparently, this co-manager does not realize that trampling a persons rights for the 'greater good' does nothing more than create a "community" composed of individuals whose rights have been trampled. Of course, his collectivist thinking is the exact opposite of the principles that America once held dear:

"...the Bill of Rights does not come from the people and is not subject to change by majorities. It comes from the nature of things. It declares the inalienable rights of man not only against all government but also against the people collectively." -Walter Lippmann

Supplements Are Under Attack Domestically And Internationally
Much more than thermogenics are in danger, and if people don't wake up and get politically active, the government is going to ban and regulate us to death. My views on pending legislation are somewhat different than the supplement industry (I oppose them all), so I will give you a quick rundown. Remember the people sponsoring this nasty legislation and vote them out of office:

S. 1780 - Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2003: This bill will waste millions of tax dollars by expanding the insane war on drugs to include androstenedione and related supplements. It should be called the Hurt Athletes And Aging Men Act. Much of the supplement industry and Senator Orrin Hatch have sold us out by supporting this bill. Only principled Libertarians can be trusted when health freedom and the drug war collide. This might be a good thing to remember at election time.

S. 1538 - DSHEA Full Implementation and Enforcement Act of 2003: Most of the supplement industry supports this bill to give FDA more money because the FDA says they need more money to properly implement the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). This is pure BS -- the FDA has fought the DSHEA every step of the way. This bill is the equivalent of giving money to the Klu Klux Klan to implement affirmative action legislation. Lets face it: if the FDA gets more money, they will just cause more trouble. Instead of going along with this charade, the entire supplement industry should tell people about the harm caused by the FDA's biased politics. Honesty is our ONLY defense.

S. 722 - Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2003: The lies about thermogenic supplements worked so well that the government wants even more power to scare soccer moms and ban supplements. Both S. 722 and H.R. 3377 are despicable attempts to thwart the will of the people by sneaking around the popular Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act.

H.R. 3377 - Dietary Supplement Access and Awareness Act: Despite the fact that peanuts kill more people every year than ALL dietary supplements combined, politicians want to spend millions of tax dollars on this supplement witch hunt. And, yes, the numbers include ephedra because the FDA's extremely dubious 150 or so ephedra deaths occurred over about a seven year period. Peanuts killed roughly 700 people during that time period. (Note: After attempting to rule out other factors, the Rand study only found a couple of fatalities that *may* have been related to ephedra. But no matter how you look at it, ephedra is MUCH safer than peanuts or countless OTC drugs.)

Do you disagree with the ephedra ban and all this nasty anti-supplement legislation?
